Brilldea is proud to present the CaS Linear, a capacitive touch sensor for the hobbyist and engineer. The CaS Linear is the first in a series of products that is based on the Cypress CapSense Express product line of programmable system on chip (PSoC). The CaS Linear features 10 I/O pins of which two are assigned to status LEDs and the remaining are assigned to touch pads.

The CaS Linear can be used in any system with an I2C interface. Data is read from the IC or written to the IC via the I2C interface. Multiple CaS Linears can be used in a system since each IC can be set up with its own address. The CY8C201A0 can be configured to use internal or external pull-up resistors on the I2C network. We prefer the internal pull-up resistors since it reduces system components.

The touch pads of the CaS Linear can be set up as buttons or as a combination of buttons and a 5-segment slider. The slider can be configured via I2C to provide up to a 16-bit feedback value for the position of the sensed element on the slider (usually your finger).

If you are just getting started with capacitive sensing, the CaS Linear and a little code will get you going. If you need more help, we recommend the CapSense Express Evaluation Kits by Cypress Semiconductor. The CaS Linear is shipped with the SMT componets already soldered to the board and tested. The remaining 0.1" headers on each end of the PCB are for you to add, but the parts come in the bag.
