LCD Graphical LM9033A

The LM9033A LCD is a 128x96 graphical LCD. That is 128 pixels wide and 96 pixels top to bottom. This is a monochrome LCD, but it is does have four gray scale levels. The display also has a white LED back light which can be connected to a power source or controlled via an external driver or transistor.

The LM9033A is setup with a default communication of 4-wire SPI, but this can be configured for 3-wire SPI, 8080 or 6800. The display should be powered by a 3.3V DC power supply which makes it compatible with many of the low power, high performance microcontrollers. The display controller for the LM9033A is the Samsung S6B0741 which has several high level functions for inversing the display, power saving and adjusting contrast.

We have cooked up an example LCD driver for the Parallax Propeller microcontroller. The driver is written in ASM and takes up one cog. SPIN routines are exposed for your program to call for manipulating the display. In addition, the reference Parallax graphics.spin driver is compatible for creating the graphics to be shown on the display. Check out the video of the LCD and driver in action.

In order to use the display you will have to wire the connection to the 0.1" 16-pin header or to one of the solder pads on the back of the display. If you want to change from 4-wire SPI to another interface, you simply solder or desolder the jumpers pads on the back of the display.
