Brilldea proudly presents the LED Painter II-8 (LPII-8), a 24 channel constant current LED controller. The LPII-8 is built upon the success of the LED Painter. You told us you wanted a fully assembled product - you got it. You told us you wanted easy daisy chaining for large displays - you got it. You told us you wanted commonly available, pluggable connections - you got it. The LED Painter II-8 has 8 groups of control, each group has three channels. That means you can control eight groups of RGB LEDs or 24 individual LEDs or any combination in between.
The LED Painter II-8 utilized the Allegro MicroSystems A6281 LED driver. This IC packs a punch for your LEDs with 10-bits of intensity control on each channel as well as separate 7-bit gray scale control for matching LEDs from one channel to another. Each channel of the LPII-8 can control up to 150mA of current! The device is preconfigured for 150mA and through software or adding additional resistor to the board you can configure to drive a lower current to your LEDs. Another great feature of the A6281 and the LED Painter II-8 is that it requires only a single voltage for LEDs and logic power. The LPII-8 can be powered with 5V DC to 17V DC.
You want lots of channels of control? The LPII-8 can be daisy chained with up to 31 boards and a few meters of cable in between each LPII-8 as the A6281 has buffers/drivers for ensuring the control data is passed from one IC to the next. Note, for large daisy chaining setups you may need to have multiple power drops - see the LPII-8 datasheet for further details. Furthermore, since the PolkaDOT-51 uses the same A6281 IC, you can interconnect the LPII-8 and the PolkaDOT-51 to create the LED network that meets your design. The data, power and LED connections on the LPII-8 use the industry standard 0.1" (2.54mm) pitch headers. Each pin is labeled clearly to indicate the function of the pin.
The LED Painter II-8 is 3" by 3" and has mounting holes in all four corners. The PCB itself is 1mm thick and made of high quality FR4 with 2oz. of copper with gold plating for rugged contact and high current carrying requirements of LED networks. The PCB, parts and assembly are RoHS compliant.
The LPII-8 can easily be controlled from any PIC, Atmel, Arduino, Propeller, Basic Stamp or other microcontroller or computer interface. Example code will be provided in the right hand side bar or found via Goggling on-line. Tutorials, projects and system accessories are in the works. Get your LPII-8 now and start creating with light!
