uOLED-IOC

Brilldea is proud to present the uOLED-IOC, the first accessory designed for the uOLED-96-PROP by 4D Systems. The uOLED-IOC is a carrier board for the uOLED-96-PROP that can be easily plugged into a solderless breadboard and connected to the Parallax Prop Plug. It also has extended I/O capability. The core of the uOLED-IOC is a PCA9555 IC offering 16-bit parallel general purpose I/O (GPIO) via an I2C interface.

The uOLED-IOC can be used in Basic Mode (as it ships from the factory), offering up to 22 total I/Os of which 16 are 5V tolerant via the PCA9555. Each of the 16 GPIO of the PCA9555 are individually configurable for input or output. In addition, each input has an internal pullup resistor which pulls the input high when undriven. For those with a steady soldering hand, you can further expand the uOLED-IOC to operate in Extended Mode with 24 I/O of which 20 are general purpose.

The uOLED-IOC is available in a kit form, but don't worry because we already soldered the surface mount components for you. Each board is hand soldered and tested to ensure it works when you receive it. When you purchase the kit you will receive the Brilldea Blue PCB with the PCA9555, pullup resistors and solder jumpers already installed. You will also recieve precut headers, ready for you to solder to the board. You have the freedom to determine the final configuration of the device. Solder the uOLED-96-PROP directly to the IOC or put in a socket for easy plugging and removing, it's your choice.

Demo software for the Propeller can be downloaded on the right. The software includes a SPIN object that continuously communicates with the PCA9555. This video shows the uOLED-IOC running the demo software. One part of the program is writing to the outputs of the PCA9555 turning on the LEDs. Another part of the program is reading the inputs (the input register indicates the state of the pin, even if it is an output) and updating the OLED display.
